Into The Woods...

A beautiful place to immerse yourself in our peaceful and wild woodland; Lowarnick ('Fox cub' in Cornish) is a secluded bell tent in the heart of the Lamorna Valley.

A space for relaxing and getting back in touch with nature. Here at Chy an Goverrow we live off grid, it means living with less and really appreciating what you have in front of you, including seasonal change, self sufficiency, embracing the wildness all around. We are still modern, civilised people, but we take time here, recognising the importance of a more easy going and primitive lifestyle. We take water from the river to wash dishes, clothes and ourselves. All our waste is composted and will be used to fertilise our food plants in the garden (kitchen waste) and the trees in the woods (composting toilet waste). We only use soaps that are natural and eco friendly, and promote buying locally grown and organic food where possible. If you are quiet you may see the red or roe deer, foxes, badgers, squirrels, any number of birds including woodpeckers, the resident buzzard and a whole parliament of owls! Down by the river you may see trout, if the heron hasn’t eaten them all, dragon and damsel flies a plenty, and if you’re lucky the kingfisher!

Lowarnick is a private space so it is all yours to enjoy, including your own private hammock area, and compost loo!

To get there you have to walk Into The Woods, over bridges and along woodland paths, Lowarnick is nestled up on a platform in-between two large sycamore trees. On the platform is a large ash slab table and bench with a cooking area, a trunk filled with all the kitchen items you should need, and a wash station. The bell tent stands proud, under her orange shade sails. Inside you will find a fully made feather bed, a sitting space with table, and a trunk filled with extra blankets, candle lanterns, a wind up light and USB charger, books and even a pack of cards. Trees and nature fully surround you, you will see sunrises and sunsets, and on a clear night you will see more stars than you can even imagine. Its one of the best spots in the woods!

There is limited phone signal in the valley, and you will not have access to mains electric. (Time to turn off and find the most useful app on your phone is your torch.) There are a couple of cafes in and around Lamorna (list of these in the Welcome Pack on arrival). We are 10 mins walk from the sea, with harbour walls, boulders and a small sandy beach at low tide. On the way back to your tent there is a well known pub called The Wink to catch a refreshing beer after the long coastal walks you could take. Walk out to Carn Barges on the West side, further on to Tater Du, the lighthouse, and on to St Loy, or go East to Carn Du, then on to Mousehole, a tiny working harbour town. If you walk inland then The Merry Maidens is about 15mins away, up out the valley. This is an ancient stone circle, one of Cornwall's many Neolithic sites.

Lamorna is steeped in a rich social history easy to find if you search online; artists, creatives and eccentrics, many interesting people lived here, and do still live here.
